New Garden Stream Restoration and Culvert Replacement

This project was implemented to widen New Garden Road from 2 lanes to 4, and to replace a small bridge over a tributary to Horsepen Creek with a new bottomless arch culvert. JEWELL initially performed detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to provide the City of Greensboro four structure options. The project included the sizing/design of the replacement structure to allow for stream and floodplain passage, design of stream relocations and restorations, erosion and sediment control design, obtaining CWA 401/404 permits, and satisfying FEMA regulations with a No-Rise analysis and certification. Culvert construction and stream relocation/restoration plans, specifications, and bid documents were prepared. JEWELL also assisted the City in the evaluation of the bids and the review of contractor supplied footing analysis and design.
