News - Doug Jewell Makes Presentation at North Carolina APWA Chapter Conference
June 14, 2010
Doug Jewell of JEWELL Engineering Consultants (JEC) gave an informative presentation on Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) on the opening day of the annual North Carolina American Public Works Association Chapter Conference held this year in Winston-Salem. This presentation was coupled with a presentation by Keith Huff, Winston-Salem Director of Stormwater, who spoke on the overall process Winston-Salem follows to minimize stormwater pollution from municipal activities.
Doug described how JEC has developed a process to efficiently and effectively prepare SWPPPs for municipal activity sites. This process involves the use of comprehensive data forms for field work to ensure the complete documentation of potentially polluting materials, activities, and the stormwater system at municipal sites. The process continues back in the office as the individual site SWPPP is created through the use of various templates and linked schedules. Once the draft SWPPP is prepared, JEC meets with City Stormwater and facility staff to finalize observations, recommendations and schedules.
As Doug presented to the interested audience, the result is a clear and concise roadmap for the City facility staff to follow that will ensure the facility’s operations will be performed in a manner to minimize stormwater pollution while meeting regulatory mandates. The implementation schedule addresses all required activities such as inspections, training, monitoring, and planning/construction of structural Best Management Practices to ensure they are performed in a timely manner.
